Rev. Jerimiah Wright for President
I just listened to Rev. Wright's entire National Press Club speech, plus the questions and answers. He was erudite and well spoken. He stuck (for the most part) to talking about what he knows and what he came to talk about: race and religious tradition in America, and boy did he do an excellent job. He said what seems to be what he really thinks, including some unpopular views, and he made me feel as if there is hope for a better world where we all treat each other with respect, if only we work for it.

In other news, I am seriously considering a move to Ithaca, NY for next year (and the rest of graduate school). Please feel free to put in your two cents (or more) worth.

I have not listened to Rev. Wright's speech, but I was awfully disappointed by Obama's repudiation of him. I felt it showed a lot more character to stand up for him, saying that he could no more denounce him than he could denounce his own grandmother.

Regarding Ithaca: travel there is a nightmare. Don't fly US Airways. It is entirely possible to spend 24 hours hopping from tiny airport to tiny airport while flights are canceled right and left. Remember also that you were awfully unhappy with the weather in Chicago, and spoke longingly of doing your homework in 80-degree sunshine in December.

On the other hand, Daniel says Cornell has an excellent math department and is oriented towards teaching as well as pure research, although I don't know if that part of your graduate career is over or not. Are you transferring, or just relocating and will continue working for the San Diego degree remotely?

In other news, Daniel and I are getting married! You should do your road trip and come to a Bay Area party we're holding in late July/early August.

Congratulations!!!!!!! (I'm not surprised, but excited for you none the less.)

I wasn't a big fan of the weather in Chicago, and I'm sure that I wouldn't be in Ithaca either. That said, I may be even less a fan of finding a new adviser. My real worry is the difficulty of getting there, since that also indicates a difficulty getting from there and I really like going to conferences.
